The following seven dog breeds are some possibilities if you want to add a pup to your family!

Beagles

Beagles are sweet, mid sized hounds who are known to be a bit talkative, but dog owners report that these loudmouths are very gentle with cats in the house. They will do especially well if they’re raised side by side with your cat, which could lay the groundwork for a lasting friendship.
Toy Poodles
One big benefit to a toy poodle is that they’re not so much bigger than a standard house cat. The other great thing about having a toy poodle in a house with a cat is that poodles are very smart and easy to train, so any animosity among the animals can get nipped in the bud quickly.
Keeshonds
Keeshonds are super fluffy and super friendly, which makes them lovable around anyone—including cats. According to one dog owner, Keeshonds have a very low prey drive and only need moderate exercise, so they won’t be especially drawn to chasing your kitty around the house. As an added bonus, they’re great with kids as well, so if your family includes both children and cats, a Keeshond could be perfect.
Eurasiers
Eurasiers are absolutely sweet, to everyone, including cats! These dogs look similar to beloved huskies, but they are far less dramatic and difficult to care for. Eurasiers are also great family and companion dogs, and aren’t concerned with hunting prey—AKA, your cat is safe! A Eurasier, like a Keeshond, is a great choice for a pet parent who loves the look of a big fluffy dog but doesn’t want to deal with any issues other than shedding season.
Labradoodles
Labradoodles are commonly suggested dog breeds for new owners, and that’s for many good reasons. These goofy, curly dogs are not big shedders, they’re easy to train, and they love their owners. And the best part is that they’re safe to have in a house with cats! They will make friends with anyone, including animals outside their species.
Dachshunds
Dachshunds, like toy poodles, have the size factor going for them when it comes to living with cats. Cats likely won’t be intimidated by Dachshunds—and who would be?—which would make a friendship a little easier to cultivate. Dachshunds are also bred to be companion dogs as opposed to hunting dogs, so they wouldn’t be treating your cats as prey. The only thing some Dachshund and cat parents warn about is that Dachshunds can be a bit bark-y in general, which could frighten a cat if they’re not used to it.
