Five weeks in and the Kansas City Chiefs still remain atop the AFC West.

Here’s how the division’s standings look after Week 5:

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)
  2. Los Angeles Chargers (3-2)
  3. Denver Broncos (2-3)
  4. Las Vegas Raiders (1-4)

Here’s a deeper look at the AFC West heading into Week 6:

Overall record: 4-1
vs. AFC West: 2-0
vs. AFC: 2-1
Points for: 159
Points against: 125

Week 5 result: Won 30-29 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Week 6 opponent: vs. Buffalo Bills (4-1)

Not only are the Chiefs No. 1 in their division, but they’re also tied with the Buffalo Bills for first in the AFC overall. Not to mention K.C. remains undefeated in its division and is the only AFC West team with a positive point differential.

The Chiefs won a close one in Week 5, narrowly defeating the Raiders after a crazy four-touchdown game by tight end Travis Kelce. It came down to the wire when the Raiders had a chance to score late in the fourth, but luckily the Chiefs’ defense held up.

K.C. has an epic game on its hands in Week 6. The Bills come back to town in a rematch of one of the greatest postseason games in recent history from last year when the Chiefs won 42-36 in overtime. Both the Chiefs and Bills are 4-1 at the top of the AFC, so this Sunday afternoon matchup will determine who the best in the conference really is.

Overall record: 3-2
vs. AFC West: 1-1
vs. AFC: 3-2
Points for: 122
Points against:136

Week 5 result: Won 30-28 at Cleveland Browns
Week 6 opponent: vs. Denver Broncos (2-3)

The Chargers almost “Charger’ed,” but managed to hang on late in the game against the Browns. It was an entertaining matchup that saw six lead changes. Chargers running back Austin Ekeler again put forth most of the work, racking up 199 yards and two touchdowns on 20 touches. Cleveland had a chance to win with 16 seconds left in the game but Cade York missed the 54-yard field goal, allowing L.A. to sneak past with the W.

The Chargers head back to L.A. next week to face the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football.” It’ll be the Chargers’ third divisional matchup this season. It’ll be an important one for L.A. as a loss would drop them further down in the AFC West standings.

Denver Broncos

Overall record: 2-3
vs. AFC West: 0-1
vs. AFC: 1-2
Points for: 75
Points against: 80

Week 5 result: Lost 12-9 vs. Indianapolis Colts (OT)
Week 6 opponent: at Los Angeles Chargers (3-2)

The Broncos lost in one of the worst football games in recent memory as some of their fans left before overtime even began. Neither the Broncos nor the Colts could score well as neither team had a touchdown. Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson had 274 yards and two interceptions on the day. Things weren’t much better for Indy or for QB Matt Ryan, but they managed to get the win in overtime after Denver failed to match the Colts’ field goal.

Things won’t get much easier for the Broncos as they head to L.A. to face a division rival next week for “Monday Night Football.” Denver and L.A. split their series 1-1 last season, but things will be much different this year with Wilson at the helm at QB.

Las Vegas Raiders

Overall record: 1-4
vs. AFC West: 1-2
vs. AFC: 1-3
Points for: 125
Points against: 130

Week 5 result: Lost 30-29 at Kansas City Chiefs
Week 6 opponent: Bye | Week 7: vs. Houston Texans (1-3-1)

The Raiders have somehow lost four games all by six points or less. It has been heartbreaker after heartbreaker for Vegas as the team continues to struggle with finishing games.

The Raiders had a super successful day running the ball against the Chiefs. Running back Josh Jacobs dominated the ground game with 154 yards rushing and a touchdown and added another 39 yards receiving. Quarterback Derek Carr had a solid day as well, finding receiver Davante Adams three times for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the offensive success, Vegas couldn’t find a way to score late down one point.

The Raiders will have a chance to refocus with a much-needed bye coming in Week 6. They may have a chance to rebound after the bye with their next two opponents, the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints, having a combined 3-6-1 record.
