Valentine's Day Cards Featuring Furry Friends

I love finding simple and creative ways to enjoy holiday fun with kids, don't you?

And I especially love when those resources are free!

When I started thinking about new Valentine's Day fun resources to share, I immediately thought of pets. Our furry, feathery, and scaly friends are like family members. It's so cool to have ways to incorporate those friends into our celebrations 😊

Growing up, my family had a whole bunch of pets. We had dogs, cats, fish, hermit crabs, and a turtle. I know that my love of animals (and development of empathy, as well as other essential emotional skills) came from my experiences with our pets. (It's also why I adore the book What Pet Should I Get? by Dr. Seuss!)

Over the years, my boys and I have had several pets. All of these precious creatures meant so much to each of us. Currently, we have Cooper, a pampered mutt who has his mama wrapped around his paw. And we have our beloved Gandalf the Grey co*ckatiel.

My younger boys were thrilled when I showed them these pet Valentine's Day cards for coloring fun. I hope that you and your kids love them, too 🥰️

Creative Ideas for Enjoying These Coloring Cards

Before I get to my suggestions for taking these pet Valentine's Day cards to the next level, I want to share a few tips to make this experience with your students as enjoyable as possible.

I recommend printing these cards on white cardstock. This affordable material provides extra durability.

Also, I recommend that you collect your writing and coloring tools. Your children will like having a variety of ways to color and customize their Valentine's Day cards with:

  • crayons
  • color pencils
  • erasable pens
  • fine-tip markers
  • Kwik Stix
  • scissors (to cut out the cards)

Your kids may want to put washi tape (this pet-themed washi tape is so cute!) on the back of their cards to reinforce and for decoration.

Go over these pet cards with your kids. Talk about the pun-like messages on each card and which card might be best for each friend and family member.

If your kids are really into pets (like we are!), they may want to make a pet-themed Valentine's Day box!
