Ghosts swirl through the screen in bulk, and characters -- including a child -- are in constant peril. All of this makes the movie more appropriate for older tweens and teens than younger or more sensitive children.

The film follows a single mother and her son who move into the Haunted Mansion, which is in New Orleans. While the film tries to utilize the setting of New Orleans in some decently authentic ways, the rest of the plot and character development is so generic that they fail to make viewers more engaged in the setting.

Sir Alistair Crump, later known as the Hatbox Ghost, is the main antagonist of the 2023 film Haunted Mansion. He was portrayed by Jared Leto. He is an evil spirit that haunts the mansion that was purchased by Gabbie, terrorizing her and her son Travis when they moved in.

Ben marries Alyssa, who later dies in a car crash. Distraught, Ben gives up his career and continues to run her ghost tour. Ben searches famous haunted places looking for signs of his wife, but eventually becomes despondent and depressed after finding no evidence of ghosts.
