Family Favorite Brisket Recipe (1)

From the title of the recipe I guess you can gather this has been a family favorite recipe.

It’s true. My mom and grandma made this recipe for as long as I can remember.

As a child my grandma and grandpa would come on weekends. Grandma Anna always made dinner on the first night they arrived. When I got home from school the house smelled so good, my siblings and I couldn’t wait until dinnertime. Grandma liked to take charge in my mom’s kitchen since her kitchen in Brooklyn was so much smaller.

However, my mom Ruthie would eventually take over even when my grandma told her to sit down and relax. But, my mom didn’t want my grandma to work too hard making a whole meal.

For as long as I remember, my dad would drive to Brooklyn early Friday morning to get them and bring them back to our home on Long Island.

What a treat it was to have both my grandma and grandpa come and stay the whole weekend with us.

I always woke up Saturday morning to something delicious to eat.

French toast, waffles, anything my grandma made was so good.

Now, these days, my sister makes this wonderful brisket recipe along with her daughter and I do along with my daughter.

Hoping this will be a new family tradition that my daughter Tori will carry on with her kids one of these days.

When my big sister Rhonda comes to visit she pushes me out of the kitchen and takes over.

I really like the way my brisket comes out. I follow the original recipe and it’s always a family favorite with my family.

But, my sister does something magical and hers comes out even better. We make it the same way! I guess it’s just having my big sis here in my kitchen.

The best part for all of you is, you have the original recipe that you can make for your family and start your own traditions cooking together.

Everything has been passed down, the recipes from the bosses in the kitchen.

This brisket recipe happens to be so simple and easy to prepare.

Make this for your family and friends to enjoy like have for many years.

Just a note, it’s a great recipe for any holiday yet, easy enough for weeknight meals.

My husband Alan and son Josh love a cold brisket sandwich the next day.

Just Incredible!

Here’s how to make this simple and wonderful brisket recipe…

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Rinse the brisket in cold water, place in baking pan. ( I use the large, deep aluminum pans. I just throw them away when I’m done)
  3. In a glass bowl, mix the soup mix, cranberries, and beef broth.
  4. Pour mixture over brisket, lay the onion over or on the side of brisket then cover tightly with tin foil and bake for about 2 hours.
  5. Take out and mix the sauce around and over the brisket. If the liquid is not thick like a gravy, take a measuring cup add the cold water and whisk in the cornstarch. Pour around the liquid in the pan and kind of whisk it in so you don’t see white from the cornstarch.
  6. Place back in the oven for another 15 to 20 minutes until the liquid boils.
  7. Take out of the oven, uncover and let the brisket sit about 12 to 15 minutes. It should look like it’s going to fall apart.
  8. That’s how you know you have a perfect brisket with delicious gravy. Slice and enjoy with your choice of potatoes, rice or butter noodles (our favorite)
  9. These amounts are for up to a 5 pound brisket, if you want to make a larger brisket, I suggest using two of the same size and doubling the other ingredients.
