CELEBRATING PASSOVERFrom April 22-30, our Jewish brothers and sisters will observe Passover, one of the most sacred holidays of Judaism. Passover marks the exodus of the ancient Israelites from Egypt. It celebrates the deliverance of God's chosen people from oppression and darkness to freedom, light, and hope in the Promised Land. As the Haggadah is recited, there is a reflection on times of the past—illuminating for everyone the importance of addressing and rising above the many challenges we face with compassion and humanity intact. Passover reminds us that together, a unified people can overcome any challenge and emerge ever more resilient. The age-old tradition of eating matzoh, a flatbread, on Passover reminds us of the need for humility. We must ensure that our egos are flattened, not preventing us from being sensitive to the needs of others. To all who will observe, we wish you a joyful Passover and hope for more peaceful days.#happypassover2024

The chair of our Jewish Cultural Heritage ERG, David Levitt, shared a timely Passover message from Rabbi David Sorani. Rabbi Sorani writes about the tradition and ritual of re-telling the Exodus story again and again, like watching your favorite movie repeatedly. He says, "the genius of this ritual is not only in how it transmits this story to the next generation, but how we transmit it to ourselves. We take control of our own narrative. By reliving our painful history and glorious redemption, we come to appreciate our blessings and how special it is to be Jewish. We tell our own story, and no one can take that away from us." In a time where citizens in the US are being censored more and more, the power of telling our stories, owning our narratives, and passing those stories on to future generations seems more important than ever. Many are fighting to keep control of their narratives as social media has taught us more about media in general, and that it is driven more by politics than truth.David adds, "The Exodus remains the single most defining characteristic of bothour liturgy and our culture. If we are still infused with this story three millennia later, we should not be the least bit surprised that other communities, some of which are a mere 160-ish years from their own emancipation and still facing discrimination and bigotry (even as our own community continues to do so...), also continue to be impacted by and struggle with that experience." As Passover begins tonight, let us all be reminded to find the strength and purpose in reliving our pain and triumphs when telling our stories, owning our stories, and ensuring future generations know our stories. The struggle from slavery to freedom is winding road for many communities. May we lean on each other for strength to endure the journey. And learn from each other along the way.To those celebrating, Chag Sameach.#Passover #JewishHeritage #Inclusion
