General review for the Now I'm Reading Level 1 series - Perhaps my very favorite phonics book, I mean books. There are 10 books here, each with a different vowel (or 2 books with one vowel sound). I love how the books build on earlier words - A cat. A tan cat. A tan cat sat. and so on and so forth. My new reader has gained a lot of confidence and speed through these books. The pictures are hilarious (and in color) and we spend a lot of time laughing about them. He also loves to put a sticker on the front when he's read a book. The stories are a bit silly, but there's not much you can do when you're reading simple words. We've tried several, many, lots of different phonics books and thus far, these are the winners. I also love how they are stored in the plastic sleeves, all neatly tucked into a small book. No hunting all over for them and they stay nice and neat, not bent pages. I have all 3 Level 1 books. We use them all, although the last book deals with consonant blends which he's still not totally fluent in. I'm not sure if we'll use the Level 2 books or if he'll be ready to tackle "regular" books by them. We'll see soon enough! Highly, highly recommended.

This is a phonics-based approach to reading. My set has ten little books, each with a short vowel sound. The pictures are colorful and funny. At the end of each book, there are a couple comprehension questions, and questions like, "What rhymes with PIG?" The thing I don't like about this series is that is confusing to order the next set with long vowel sounds through the Internet. Apparently there are various sets published in different years, so it is hard to find the one that I need.

My favorite kiddo phonics books. Evan (4) is reading these and building quite a bit of confidence. The author pays close attention to introducing only a few sounds at a time and uses repetition and humor to keep the kids reading and build sight-recognition. Each book also has stickers (reinforcement!) to give to the kiddo when he finishes reading the book. Between the instant success and the stickers, he read all 10 books in one day. Wonderful!

My K'er loves these readers. These are part of our homeschool curriculum. I think we have 5-6 sets. We are about to complete the first level. He laughs aloud as he reads. The story's are about animals which is his favorite thing to study. And he always looks forward to using the stickers included to mark his progress. Perfect readers!

My son is learning to read with Hooked on Phonics & this book was great because most of the words he already knew & could read by himself. The book contains 5 short stories.

Best set of beginning phonics books I have found (short vowels), even better than BOB Books. Have successfully used with all three children!
